Heat Roadmap Europe 4 will develop heat strategies and thermal atlases for 14 EU countries
The 4th Heat Roadmap Europe project, which is a comprehensive study of the heating and cooling sectors in the 14 largest EU countries, has been approved by the EU’s research programme Horizon 2020. The study, which is led by researchers from the 4DH centre at Aalborg University, Denmark, will begin in February 2016 and continue for 3 years.
System export for Danish DH companies becomes reality
Danish district heating companies have long been dreaming about the possibilities for system export. Now, for the first time, 8 Danish companies have landed an agreement with the American power developer NuPower LCC to deliver complete district heating systems for the city of Bridgeport, USA. A breakthrough that opens the door to a district heating market expected to grow with 33% before 2020.
4DH research presented at SDEWES2015
Heating, cooling and electricity smart grids should be seen as part of overall smart energy systems, which should include district energy and renewable and flexible CHP production. This was the main message in Professor and Head of 4DH Henrik Lund’s keynote speech on smart energy systems at this year’s SDEWES conference last week of September in Dubrovnik.
4DH reduces energy costs more than fossil fuels
Expansion of district heating in cities, investments in energy efficiency measures in buildings and installment of large heat pumps in less populated areas are three initiatives that can reduce energy costs more than continuing to use fossil fuels in Europe.
This is shown in the STRATEGO/Heat Roadmap Europe 3 calculations for the five countries Romania, Croatia, Italy, the United Kingdom and Czech Republic, chosen as representative countries for the differences within EU regarding population, climate, resources, and energy supply.
Next year's 4DH conference will be on 27-28 September 2016
Mark your calendar - the dates are now ready for next year's 2nd International Conference on Smart Energy Systems and 4th Generation District Heating held by the 4DH Research Centre. The conference will take place at the Nordkraft Centre in Aalborg, Denmark on 27-28 September 2016. More information and Call for Abstracts will follow later this year.
